what does single supplement mean in traveling?

as i search for a package tour for japan, it is so expensive for adults and kis as well but in “single supplement” it is cheaper. What does it mean? Why it is the cheapest?

Usually that’s the additional amount you have to pay for not being a couple. So if the per person rate is $800 and the single supplement is $600 you would pay $800+$600 or you get another person to pay $800 and share a room with you.
