Is it safe to go to Tijuana and Ensanada now?

Because I read of Wikitravel and a few other places that it wasnt safe to go without a tour??
But is that really true? E.g. Has everyone stopped going over to Mexico or has nothing really changed??

Tijuana is not dangerous if you stay out of the trouble areas. Loads of people cross over for cheap booze and illegal prostitutes, so of course there are horror stories about dead or robbed americans. What do they expect, walking right into the crime spots of an unknown city… Still, it is as safe as any other large city if you are wise enough to avoid the bad zones.

Ensenada is very tranquil, and the seafood is SO good.

You’re OK going without a tour. Most people around here speak or understand english anyway.
