Travel Tours Greece
has anyone ever traveled to Greece and Italy?
I know nothing about travel in other countries. I want to be safe and I don’t know where to start. Should I do a cruise or a tour. Should I back pack across Europe? Any sugestions would be helpful. Thank you.
How much would it cost to travel to europe?
I travelled in both countries by train with a female friend when we were at uni (backpacking). We had an Interrail (Eurrail) Pass on which we could travel for a month.
We never got bothered once. In Greece we even hitchhiked once! The only other country in Europe I would hitchhike is Ireland. We felt incredibly safe there (I am talking about the Peloponese now, which is a rural area).
Especially the Greek were incredibly nice, but also the Italians. In tourist areas many people speak (some) English, but this is not always the case!
We had a travel guide (Lonely Planet book) with us so that we knew where to go for things like accomodation, but we never pre-booked. There’s so many cheap but nice places to stay both in Italy and Greece. Only Rome is incredibly expensive! But so beautiful that it’s worth every cent. We mainly stayed in hostels, a great way to meet other travellers.
When we were in the Greek islands the locals often met the ferry and offered us great rooms for low prices (in their own homes! but with the privacy of a hotel).
The food is great both in Greece and Italy and the history of both countries is simply amazing.
I have never been on a cruise or tour there so can’t tell you anything about that.
