A lot of people think that TV sucks the brain cells right out of a person. There are actually plenty of TV shows still around that teach valuable life lessons, though. Let’s look at a few of them.

Psych is a great detective drama on USA network. The premise is that Shawn, the main character, is pretending to be psychic to help solve crimes. In reality, though, he just has a photographic memory and a sharp wit. It’s always entertaining and also gets a person using their deductive reasoning skills.

Another of my favorite shows with a point is Super Nanny. New episodes are on once a week on ABC network and the Style network has reruns on daily. In that show, the Super Nanny, Jo Frost, visits homes in both Britain and the USA where the kids are out of control. Jo teaches the parents great tips for teaching their kids values and responsibility without yelling or unnecessarily rough discipline. Any parent could learn a lot of great things from Jo’s techniques.

There are also a lot of shows on about the power of self-esteem. For example, What Not To Wear and How Do I Look are shows that take people who are, quite possibly, the worst dressed in the USA and turning them into fashionable people with higher self-esteem. Although I don’t think people should be judged by their looks, I also know that they often are. So, learning tips for improving your look can really improve your life.

The CSI shows, The Law And Order shows and shows like NCIS are also full of great educational information, although they may not be suitable for a younger audience. They show a lot about the United States legal system and they also discuss morals, ethics, conflicts of interest and other problems that are relevant to everyone’s daily lives.
