Engagement party….?

My fiancee and I planned an engagement party for March 8th. When he shared the news with his family, they asked if we could push the engagement party back to May 20th. I am a little offended. His family did not provide me with an explanation. It comes across very bossy to select a date (May 20th), instead of allowing me to come up with a new date. I find it extremely bossy and rude. Perhaps, they can’t afford to travel by car three hours away to our home. Perhaps, they don’t want to travel during the winter. I am at a lost for words and explanations. No one can bring the drama like the in-laws.
My fiancee and I are paying for the entire engagement party.

A. You can through your own engagement party if you want to. You can pretty much do as you please. It’s not the old days after all. B. It is extremely rude for them to just pick a date unless they plan on giving you a party themselves. Otherwise you should talk to them and find out why they asked for the party to be pushed off. Talk it over with your FI and if he doesn’t know the answer and you both still want it on that date then do it. Let his family know they are welcome and will be missed and even offer to pick them up if they need a lift. Say it would be a great way to discuss what plans your making so they don’t feel uncomfortable. Hope this helps!

During telling we spun off into…
