Travel Way Group
Times shares are they worth it? What is the best way to buy one?
Looking for a good way to travel and to take long weekends in our area (Northwest). Is Trendwest a good group? What are some companies to look at? What are some to avoid? Is there a good after market?
We are members of Disney Vacation Club and they have destination worldwide. However keep in mind that many timeshares require a monthly maintance fee. Disney offers the most flexibility from what we have seen. Is it worth it…well we would never stay in some of the places we have so far. From Hilton Head Island S.C. to Keystone Colorado and of course several Disney Resorts including our home resort Old Key West. Call a Disney Vacation Club rep and they can tell you all the properties that are available in your area. There is a $75 transfer fee when you book something outside of the DVC resorts.
We currently spend $1,200 a year on monthly maintance fees and taxes..add this to the price we paid for a 23 year timeshare deal the average cost per year is $2,000. Our home resort cost to the general public starts around $300 per night for a small unit. So based on that its worth it but if you are happy staying at a resort that charges less per night and you only go on vacation once a year it may not be.
There are places that sell aftermarket timeshares but from what I have heard things don’t always work in your favor. I can tell you this no matter what timeshare company you look at they will do all they can to sell theirs to you. We did not have this with Disney because we called them and bought ours sight unseen.
