A couple of questions:
Does anyone know the best place to book a holiday to Egypt, either on the net, travel agents, teletext etc. I’m looking to go not this weekend but the next, I’ve looked at loads but wonder if anyone has recommendations??
Also is Luxor in Egypt a good place to visit? The best prices seem to be when you stay in Luxor as it is not near the beaches. Ideally I’d like to stay at a Red Sea resort like Sharm El Sheik but staying at these places seems to cost a lot, is Luxor still value for money and a good place to stay?

luxor as you have already realised is in the middle of Egypt on the Nile surrounded by desert. yes it is cheaper and also the restaurants etc are also cheaper. average main couse anout £5. in luxor you will see the ancient history e.g. valley of the kings, karnak temple. The weather will be slightly warmer and the majority of the hotels have pools.
in the red sea you will have of course have diving and water sports and the night life will be far more lively. it will also cost more like Europe prices average main course £10-12 in sharm.
obviously there are cheaper and more expensive in both places.
i often use kuoni, try their special offers they are surprisingly cheap also the www.holidayholidayholiday.co.uk but what is cheap today is often more expensive tomorrow so the best i can say is surf. i do disagree with one other poster i would say go to the best hotel you can afford.
if you go to sharm or luxor the airport is close to all hotels so going independently is not difficult but i have to say that normally the tour operators are cheaper in luxor than the independents, due to the flights being limited (only on mon and wed) in the uk.
so i guess it depends what you want if its night life you are after dont go to luxor, if its just a relaxing holiday then yes luxor is good. i know both quite well so i if you have specific questions please mail me. there is one other thing to take into consideration ramadan has just started.
