Aaa Travel Tours To Italy
travel to Rome, Venice, Florence in Oct. cost taking group tour from US vs self planning trip ?
We’re planning a trip to Italy in Oct. Rome, Venice, Pisa, Florence. I’m trying to compare the cost of going with the usual groups; AAA, etc. versus planning the trip myself-seeing the sights, staying at ? farmhouses, villas, etc??
Thanks
I travel a lot and I find doing it myself works out a lot cheaper, plus I prefer it – I’ll explain why:
I suggest to 1st check the major prices yourself (airfare to Italy and apartments or hotels, villas – and car hire if you want) and then compare what a pre-arranged tour will cost.
I will provide some links below on how to get competitive price comparisons.
Bear in mind it’s easy to book your own tours in Italy – from outside or once you are inside. In many cities (like Rome, Florence, Venice etc.) you can also book day trips – ex Tuscan wine tours, day trip to Cinque Terre (Highly recommended) day trips to Pompeii and Capri etc.
For info on Florence: Day trips, farmhouses, general tourist info see http://www.romanlife-romeitaly.com/florence-italy-tourist-information.html
From personal experience I’m not keen on the whole pre-arranged package tour thing, I prefer to be able to spend as much or as little time in one place as I like and I prefer quality rather than quantity i.e. I sometimes like to spend more time relaxing and taking in the local culture (and maybe nightlife) rather than having to worry about waking up at 7Am to catch the tour bus – again it’s a personal choice – but in especially Rome and Florence culture and nightlife plays such a big part of your experience.
Ok so, I’m jumping all over the place here but you can do a bit of helpful research here:
For an explanation on how to find cheap flights to Italy see http://www.romanlife-romeitaly.com/cheap-airline-tickets-to-italy.html
For an excellent way on searching and comparing various hotel, apartment, hostel, B&B etc rates throughout Italy see http://www.romanlife-romeitaly.com/hotel-booking-italy.html
For some information on Rome and Italy see http://www.romanlife-romeitaly.com/ tourist attractions, tours, transport, airports, accommodation etc
Hope that helps,
Cheers
Oh yes, I suggest you do Pisa as a day trip from Florence (not much there other than the Tower and Basilica)
And if you really want to trim the expenses I suggest you base yourself in Rome for a couple of days and either Venice or Florence (perhaps Florence as both Venice and Pisa can be done as day trips).
You save more money being based in one place for a couple of days rather than moving around often.
But, these are just suggestions, go with what you feel will suit you best.
Enjoy!
